My Story: How Somatic Experiencing Helped Me Heal

For years, I carried the weight of experiences that my body never forgot—no matter how much time had passed.

A medical trauma left me feeling disconnected and anxious in ways I didn’t fully understand. And even deeper, there was an assault from over 20 years ago that I had long buried. I rarely spoke about it, but it lived in my body—in the tension, the pain, the fatigue, the moments I felt on edge for no clear reason.

I tried many approaches to healing, but it wasn’t until I found Somatic Experiencing that something truly shifted in me.

Somatic Experiencing is different. It doesn’t ask you to relive your trauma or explain every detail of it. Instead, it gently supports you in listening to your body—tracking sensations, noticing patterns, and slowly releasing the energy that gets stuck when we go through something overwhelming.

In my own healing journey, I learned to recognize the subtle signs of how my nervous system was protecting me: a tight chest, a sense of numbness, a holding in my breath. I was able to stay present with these sensations—just a little at a time—until my body started to feel safe again.

Healing didn’t come all at once, but it came. Little by little, the grip of old trauma loosened. I began to feel more grounded, more whole, and more alive. This impacted my life in deep ways.

What I love about Somatic Experiencing is that it honors the wisdom of the body. It works gently, at your pace, and in a way that truly respects your nervous system’s natural ability to heal.

If you’ve experienced trauma—recent or long ago—and you’re looking for a safe, body-based way to approach it, I want you to know that it’s possible. I’ve walked that path, and I’m here to support you as you begin your own as a psychologist in Luxembourg.
