Why a Somatic Approach to Trauma?
Trauma has happened in the past, but still lives in the present of the traumatised person
through procedural memory, as some of our actions and reactions are automatic. In these uncontrolled behaviours, our traumas are re-enacted unconsciously.
This can translate into extreme anxiety, stress, panic attacks and even flashbacks.
These reactions we experience are not appropriate to the situations we live in the present and can be accompanied with shame, guilt, fear or even anger. But it is in fact the expression of our body, our nervous system, being stuck in the unresolved past traumatic event and reliving it as if the threat was still present today.
Whilst many modalities can be helpful, the specificity of a Somatic Psychology Approach is that it supports effective regulation of the nervous system, consequently enhancing trauma resolution.
With improved regulation, the symptoms can be reduced and healed.
This work is done at the rhythm of your nervous system, respecting your background and psychological difficulties, and in a safe and secure space.
I am dedicated to supporting your nervous system using Somatic Experiencing as well as Polyvagal Theory, as well as other modalities adapted to your specific case.
